April 2009 It's Official: IRS Announces 2009 Federal Tax Credit for Purchasing Electric Vehicles A new federal tax credit is now available to those who purchase a low speed all-electric vehicle - like the Zenn electric passenger car (above, left) or the Vantage electric truck (above, right). Buyers of these plug-in vehicles can take 10% of the purchase price of the vehicle and deduct that amount (up to $2,500) from any 2009 federal income tax they owe.
