Colleges Go Green With Electric Work Vehicles - Part 1

Colleges, universities and K-12 schools find themselves in the forefront of the push to color the U.S. economy a self-sustaining green. Many school leaders have signed the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment, which commits their schools to cut carbon emissions.

Here in the Upper Midwest, schools such as the College of St. Catherine (aka St. Kate's) and Hamline University make progress toward that goal by outfitting their campuses with practical all electric no emission work vehicles.

St. Kate's Facilities Management and Campus Security groups have used electric vehicles for almost three years. The security vehicle (above right) is a customized Cushman "Commander". The Hamline vehicle (above left) - an EX-V2 manufactured by e-Ride Industries - went into service July, 2006. It's used for both on and off campus delivery of mail and packages. Other schools, such as Minnesota State University-Mankato use electric vehicles for classroom research and for on-campus work needs.
